Islam Cooperative Project Rubric

This rubric is used to evaluate how the group member performs at each stage of topic development, research, consolidation of information, and presentation.   Choose a number for each of the areas listed below.  The sum of the numbers gives an indication of student performance for the project.  The scale and definition of the scores are at the bottom of the rubric.  Comments are highly effective in giving specific guidance in ways to maintain or improve performance.
 

STEP ONE:  Basic Information (3-15 points)
 The student gathers information on specified areas.
 5-  Independently discovers information from a variety of sources
 3-  Occasional requires assistance in gathering information
 1-  Usually requires assistance in gathering information
 The student exhibits elements of analysis, synthesis, and/or uniqueness in completing assigned task.
 5-  Consistently exhibits higher level thought processes
 3-  Occasionally exhibits higher level thought processes
 1-  Rarely exhibits higher level thought processes
 The student reports information to the team.
 5-  Always delivers timely, accurate, and pertinent contributions
 3-  Occasionally delivers timely, accurate, and pertinent contributions
 1-   Rarely exhibits timely, accurate, and pertinent contributions
STEP TWO:  Five Pillars (2-10 points)
 The student gathers information on specified areas.
 5-  Independently discovers information from a variety of sources
 3-  Occasional requires assistance in gathering information
 1-  Usually requires assistance in gathering information
 The student reports information to the team.
 5-  Always delivers timely, accurate, and pertinent contributions
 3-  Occasionally delivers timely, accurate, and pertinent contributions

STEP THREE:  Muslim Personalities (3-15 points)
 The student gathers information on specified areas.
 5-  Independently discovers information from a variety of sources

 The student exhibits elements of analysis, synthesis, and/or uniqueness in completing assigned task.

STEP FOUR:  Civilization and History (3-15 points)
The student gathers information on specified areas.

 The student exhibits elements of analysis, synthesis, and/or uniqueness in completing assigned task.

STEP FIVE:  Presentation  (7-35 points)
 A student decides on presentation topics and issues.
 5-  Independently discovers issues that are suitable for presentation.
 3-  Formulates area of concentration with peer or adult help to establish
      relevancy of topic
 1-  Relies upon adults to decide issue or topic
 A student identifies sources of information likely to build understanding.
 5-  Selects high quality sources independently and efficiently
 3-  Selects sources with mixed success
 1-  Wanders from source to source without questioning which source will be
      most helpful
 A student collects and stores information for later consideration.
 5-  Collects and organizes important information for retrieval independently
 3-  Collects information with some degree of organization

 A student reorganizes information so that the most valuable becomes readily available to support presentation.
 5-  Creates structure which provides a coherent and clear focus
 3-  Creates partial organization of information
 1-  Leaves information as gathered
 A student recombines information with other group members in order to develop presentation.
 5-  Creates an original decision or solution
 3-  Reorganizes and combines strategies of others
 1-   Restates the decisions and solutions of others
 A student determines whether the information gathered is sufficient to support a presentation.
 5-  Tests solutions and decisions to see if supporting information is adequate
 3-  Looks for missing information
 1-  Reaches a hasty conclusion
 A student translates findings into a persuasive, instructive, or effective presentation.
 5 - Creates and presents an original product that effectively addresses 
      original problem or issues
 3 - Provides a product that offers some insight with regard to the original
      problem or issues
 1-  Shares the work or thoughts of others

Scale: 18-90 points possible

A = 81-90
B = 72-80
C = 63-71
D = 54-62
F = 18-53

A= Excellent overall effort/product; always exhibits or attempts to utilize higher-order thinking skills
B = Good effort and/or product in all areas; regularly exhibits higher-order thinking skills
C = Some effort/product of good and some of poor quality; occasionally exhibits higher-order thinking skills
D = More poor quality effort/product than good quality; rarely higher-orderthinking skills
F =  Quality of effort/product poor; no higher-order thinking skills
